I’ve read a few memoirs by former Obama staffers, and this one is the weakest. Valerie Jarrett starts out by describing her childhood in Iran, which was quite interesting, but she spends way too much time on her work in the Chicago bureaucracy. She doesn’t bring up her meeting with Michelle Robinson until a third of the way into the book. Most of the rest of the memoir covers familiar ground if you have read Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming.
