The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

Wonderfully written book, with rich characters and a unique plot. A real page-turner. My only reason for not giving it a 5-star is simply the mom in me. Even though the book was written skillfully, I just can't bear the thought of children being gladiators.
But the book is not nearly as gory as I thought it would be, and actually was very satisfying to read.

Interestingly, Suzanne, I actually liked the third one best because I thought it had such parallels to what's happening in Syria today. Who can you route for? Both sides are bad because deep inside humanity is that quest for power. Anyway, I'm writing my syndicated column on the series next week and I think that's what I'll focus on. It's a great series to read in high schools, I think, and especially the third one because of what it can tell you about history and politics. Thanks!
