really liked it

This is a lovely fairy tale. It's a version of Cinderella with a lesbian twist. Magic fills the air for open-minded teenage readers.

Like many fairy tale heroines, Ash becomes an orphan. She longs for her mother's love and keeps trying to flee her stepmother's house for her mother's grave. In the Woods the world of fairy sometimes appears, alluring but somewhat menacing.

Ash does not have a conventional fairy godmother. The fairy who helps her is a bit sinister.

However, there is no excess cruelty or ugliness in this book. Just a traditionally mean stepmother and stepsister.

The book is written with a sparkling hand.
