it was amazing
bookshelves: youngadult

Readlly difficult for lower-lever readers to understand at the beginning. Students were also not interested as a read-aloud. Perhaps too deep for inner-city kids....

Debbie THE GIVER is an amazing book to read with a varied group of kids. If taken slowly, they can be led to question so many things about life around them. Once we got into a deep discussion regarding the what purpose does love really serve. Also, is pain really beneficial?

It's a tough read, for sure. However. like one kid told me, "It's my first really grown-up book."
