it was amazing
bookshelves: adult-2019, historical-fiction-2019, read-2019

It took me three weeks to read this incredible story. I did read other things, too, but slowed myself down, perhaps growing my reading like patient trees, to savor every part. It is dense with information, filling the reader up with the main character's intelligence, the trees themselves. Woven in and out of the lives of characters from long ago to those resisting the logging that is stripping the land of that which keeps human life safe. Time passes quickly, at least for the humans, while I clung to their hopes along with them. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, short-listed for the Man Booker Prize, this is a book I won't forget. I am fortunate to be surrounded by trees in my home and now I will see them in a different way.
