Creepy and very, very gory. Here we have a grown-up Red Riding Hood on her way to grandmother's house after a highly contagious disease has wiped out just about everybody and thrown the U.S. into post-apocalyptic madness and evil. Good thing Red has an axe. This isn't quite The Road and it's not quite Alien, but it has flavors of each. The characters mostly didn't ring true to me, with the exception of Red, whom I grew to like a bit, after living in her paranoid, obsessive head for the entire book. But mostly this is a horror show, and knows it's a horror show, and talks about being a horror show, at great length. But you still can't put it down because SHE HAS TO GET TO GRANDMA'S HOUSE, and you're going to limp along the whole way with her.
