Material Witness by Vanetta Chapman is the third (and last) book of the Shipshewana Amish mystery series set in contemporary Indiana. The Fall Crafters Fair is a huge annual event in Shipshewana. Tourists come from everywhere to browse and buy. All town merchants stay open extended hours. Aaron, young son of Callie's dear friend Melinda, is the only witness to a murder, the only person who saw the killer's face. Aaron's vulnerable, confined to a wheelchair.

The killer attacks Max, and contacts Callie to demand she hand over a fortune, "or else". (What fortune?) She's distraught, at wit's end to save Max and Aaron (and of course herself). But how can she outwit the killer? All her friends in Shipshewana join together, plotting to protect loved ones, and catch the killer in a trap. Of course, clever independent-minded members of the group make their own plans.

Police detective Shane vows to catch this killer, stop the murders, and most of all save Callie. He can't help but remember how his sister's murder destroyed his family.

Who is the killer? What/Where is the fortune? Early in the story, Callie and her friends inherited quilts to restore. Eventually they remember...and the quilts provide clues.

Strong friendships and love for family shine in this heartwarming tale, as a community rallies to protect one of their own. Callie isn't of their faith, has only lived in town a short time, but she's well loved.
