This short book by Ruth Reichl isn't as strong as her memoirs. It's an interesting look at the dynamic between herself and her mother, but it pits "working mother" and "stay at home mother" against each other in ways I have never liked. I knew from reading her other books that Reichl feels women ought to work to feel fulfilled, but this book belabored the point a bit too much. It was interesting to see Reichl uncover things about her mother's life that she hadn't previously known, but the idea that her mother would magically have been happy if she'd gone to work didn't quite resonate with me. I liked the writing, but the content wasn't as appealing to me as in her food memoirs.
