it was amazing

I loved the three books leading up to this one. They each tell a unique, intriguing story that gets you hooked from the first page. The final installment of The Giver series is no exception.

And while the middle part of this book frustrated me immensely because I thought it interrupted the flow and just got in the way (I wanted to yell, "Just get on with it!"), it really did serve a purpose. In fact, if not for the middle section, the pay off at the end wouldn't have been as great.

Sometimes the boring and frustrating parts of life are some of the most necessary.

Most dystopian novels present a purely materialistic world. The Giver mixes in supernatural elements that at first seem strange (see my review of The Giver), but then add to the mystery and awe of the world they live in. And that's exactly like the real world. So even if everything isn't explained in the end, I'm ok with that. It's a beautiful story.
