Contemporary realistic fiction
On Easter, Laurel’s world is changed forever. Her parents and her brother go out with the Mr. and Mrs. Kaufman, for ice cream, but they were in a deadly accident, where only Mr. Kaufman survived in a vegetative state. This is the story of how Laurel and David, the Kaufman’s son, must move on without their family. David starts to travel, and when he does he leaves his dog Masher with Laurel. Laurel turns to things that would make her family proud including working at an animal hospital. During this time romance between David and Laurel begins, though it is clouded by another guy Laurel likes, Joe. This is a relatable story that will have readers wondering how Laurel and David will be able to heal. I enjoyed the book and is one that I would recommend.
