The Dark Lake
A decent Australian crime novel with a few frustrating plot points. (view spoiler)[Gemma, who is the lead investigator on the murder of a woman, spends the entire novel failing to mention that as a teenager, she forged a letter from that woman to her ex boyfriend which she believes caused her ex's death by suicide. I mean, not immediately relevant, but very obviously something that should be disclosed to her fellow investigators. As it turns out, looking into that historical letter writing should have given them some insight into the murder, but everyone is cool with this at the end, Gemma being given a pat on the back and "never mind, don't do it again" (paraphrasing, obviously). Just... what? I feel like there should have been more consequences for this. (hide spoiler)] I am going to read the next book in the series even though I find Gemma a rather frustrating character.
