About 4 1/2 stars.

The chaos that is Nate Temple’s life continues in the 12th book of the Nate Temple series. At the start of this story, Nate is still on his mountaintop in Fae trying to integrate his Nate Temple side with his Wylde Fae side. He has hardly returned to sanity before he is attacked by a Knightmare.

In the Templeverse, most of the characters of myth and legend are likely to be still alive and active no matter what you think happened to them all those years ago. These Knightmares were created by Mordred in the previous book from the knights who used to be the members of King Arthur’s Round Table. They are not unkillable, but they are much too close to it for comfort.

Nate has another enemy in this book; the Norse god Thor, whom he managed to anger in one of the previous books. It doesn’t help matters that Nate has just found out that Thor’s father, Odin, has been disguised for years as his family’s butler, Dean. Thor is using the opportunity to try to take over Odin’s place in Asgard. He has also already been by to attack Nate’s friends in St. Louis, including Gunnar and Ashley, who are expecting twins any minute. In fact, they should already have been born, but they haven’t. So strange.

In his attempts to destroy Thor and Mordred, Nate and his crew travel to Niflheim and Asgard, home to Chateau Falco, and back and forth to Fae several times trying to get the advantage of Mordred. At one point, the scene where Nate gives Callie the Horseman mask of Despair (from Black Sheep) is replayed, only from Nate’s viewpoint this time. Eventually, Nate is forced to give out all the other Horseman masks to repair his own. And the new Horsemen are able to do the trick.

But, as things usually go for Nate, clearing up one set of enemies and answering one set of questions only leaves more questions, and probably new enemies. So, it’s an almost certain thing that Nate Temple will be back later with more.
