Both of the books in this series (that I have so far read) have been competent. The ideas are, for the most part, fresh, and I found them entertaining.

That said, I feel they both missed the mark. I'm sure this idea will anger the dyed-in-the-wool fans of Feist, but I don't think either of these books really delivered on the promise that the titles made.

In books about magic and magicians, I expect to see both magic and magicians, not just people who are "oh, by the way" magicians. Feist missed an opportunity to really get into the magic, how it was done, and how it could have been used in the unfolding story.

Yes, I can recommend the books, but more for their sword and shield adventure than for the magic.
