it was ok
bookshelves: read-to-my-kids

When I put this on my "read-to-my-kids" shelf, it only means that I started reading it to my kids... they wandered off bored, and it was short enough that I decided I might as well finish it after they went to bed.

Maybe my expectations were too high, because I have liked Cronin's other children picture books, and this fell a little short. Maybe I just don't know very many snarky and sarcastic children who would enjoy this. Sassy and discontented was the tone of this book. Also, the voice suddenly switched characters about the 10th chapter in, and then it suddenly switched back a couple of chapters later. Do I have to explain why that bothered me? All I know is that it did.

For me, this seems like a mis-placed childrens book, one that is maybe a little funny -- maybe funny(?) for a ten or eleven year old on up... it would definitely need to be a child with a grasp of the sarcastic.
