I was totally enthralled by this novel, the 14th in Deborah Crombie's brilliant series. Not only is the mystery plot complex and puzzling, the setting is vividly and atmospherically portrayed, the characters come alive on the page, and the writing is outstanding. I enjoyed learning about the world of competitive rowing. I really liked the family scenes, with the children and pets. And I loved those wonderful search-and-rescue dogs, Finn and Tosh, who play such an important part in the story. The Duncan Kincaid-Gemma James series is a must-read for Anglophile crime-fiction readers, and dog lovers will especially enjoy this one.
