I'm having a hard time articulating why I didn't like this book. Maybe because it felt like a worse "Washington Black" to me, similar story and setting, just not as well written or developed. The writing was definitely interesting, I can appreciate the author's prose, but to be honest, my eyes just skimmed over most of this book and I felt myself having to reread sections and even pages because I had zoned out. I had a hard time empathizing with Frannie, not because of what she had gone through, but because of how she was written about. trudged through this one for book club, but don't know if I would have finished it otherwise.
