Richard is a lousy king in this telling (and probably in reality) and acts despicably as the villain, especially in the treatment of his relatives. Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV) is the hero. I had a hard time with this one, though in general I like Shakespeare's histories better than his other plays.

Still reading Shakespeare with The Play's The Thing Blog though I'm going at my own pace.
