If you are interested in a compelling action-packed adventure written intelligently and with verve, "Cooper's Promise" is for you. The plot concerns an Army sharpshooter and deserter from the Iraq war who is faced with multiple physical and emotional obstacles as he attempts to redeem himself in order to return home. He is adrift as an unwilling mercenary in an undisclosed African nation where he encounters a variety of characters who prove to be complex and multi-faceted. The book addresses deeper themes of redemption, the plight of women in the desperate realm of human trafficking, and the complexity of love in a cross-cultural context. I also found the novel to be a very gripping read, a true "page turner".
