Having read Anna Karenina earlier this year and having been told Dostoevsky isn't nearly so wordy and difficult as Tolstoy, I was ready for a fun read. Boy, was I in for a shock! While I truly enjoyed the overall story and mystery aspect of it, the deep, wordy treatises on government, religion, the church, family, the law, etc, kept my eyes crossed through a large portion of this book. Around Book VI or so, I was really wondering if I was going to make it through. This is one for those who either enjoy Russian culture or just want to check as many classics off their list as possible. Not for the faint at heart.
