Lust for Life
Jul 14, 2019
Written in 1934, the biographical novel stays mostly true to Van Gogh's life. The dialogue had to be fabricated but was based on some 700 letters that Van Gogh wrote to his brother. The book starts slow but builds steadily as Van Gogh starts to come into his painting element and also becomes crazier. Irving Stone does a pretty good job depicting the epileptic fits and drive that Van Gogh must have had to complete his paintings. The writing and flow is well done (not revolutionary). I would give 3.5 stars if that were an option.
