it was amazing

I thought Esio Trot was a delightful book. I have read other reviews in which people criticize it for being immoral, because Mr. Hoppy deceives Mrs. Silver, then builds relationship based on a lie. However, I really don’t think that was the authors intended message. Throughout nearly all of his books Roald Dahl depicts a protagonist that overcomes their difficulties by doing something clever. Mr. Hoppy does not tell a lie that is meant to be hurtful, he is trying to seem intelligent in order to gain Mrs. Silvers respect.
Although I understand why some people may have an issue with the book I remember enjoying it when I read it in third grade. I would recommend this to children in middle elementary school and beyond.

Kim Bickes I agree with you as well Dana. I could understand why some teachers would maybe not want to read this book to their class but I think that it is a delightful book and that the students will enjoy it. I read it to my second grade class last year and they learned more about turtles and actually wanted to know more about them!
