really liked it
bookshelves: urban-fantasy
Read from April 25 to 26, 2012

I was expecting a much longer story, since Briggs has swapped from doing two releases a year to just one--totally understandable, but as a result I did expect a meatier story. Happily, it's a good story and she has gotten so, so much better at writing in the third person perspective that occasionally hops voices. Earlier books in the series suffered from her trying to give both Charles's and Anna's takes on scenes, whereas this doesn't do the re-treading so much.

Not much of a spoiler, but putting my eye rolling of the sex scene in here behind a cut since it does have a little bearing on some events: (view spoiler)

Interesting surprise twist at the end, which seems like a good choice for both this series and Mercy Thompson. While werewolves have been dealing with becoming public, the entire "supernaturals dealing with fitting into society" thing has been stagnating a bit, so it's good to see that both series will be deviated.
