really liked it

The sci-fi book, Midnighters, The Secret Hour by Scott Westerfeld, is about a young girl, Jessica moves to Bixby after living in Chicago for a number of years. From the move, she realizes so thing very different about the town, something she did not expect. At midnight the whole world freezes, yet she is up at this time still able to move around and go about her doings. Soon she ran in to others like her who called themselves themselves the Midnighters. They would go on to show her the scary truth about this secret hour.

Jessica and the others (Midnighters), have special powers that they use during the secret hour. Yes, they all have powers but with Jessica hers is not so obvious. In general Jessica is just different. Usually the Midnighters are affected by the light, but Jessica is not. The Midnighters have came to understand the dark and creatures that live in it, wants nothing to do with them, yet they are out for blood when it comes to Jessica. Without a doubt this issue has to do with her special power, and Jessica along with the Midnighters is on a mission to figure out her power and defeat the darkness.

This book is on edge and will have you wanting more. It's the first of the series and sets the rest of the series up nicely. There is much more to the secret hour than what is told in the first book, and you will want to continue reading to find out what happens next. Just when you think you know what is going to happen a complete unexpected turn of events comes up and the journey continues. I highly recommend this book and to continue and finish out the series, the second book is amazing thus far.
