Somebody I Used to Know: A Memoir
Wendy Mitchell's memoir Somebody I used ot know is an excellent read. It traces her own story of being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers and how she reacted and currently copes with this illnesss. For anyone in a similar position or a carer of anyone with dementia, in my opinion it is a must read. It is honest, touching and insightful. It also gives a ton of tips for how to handle the illness and how to help someone else manage it. This woman is really admirable. I came across her on a podcast called Older and Wider where she did an excellent interview. She is really to be admired for erasing the stigma of dementia and bringing it to the forefront. As an ex-employee of the NHS the irony of how badly it has let her down is not lost on the reader. I really do recommend this book, not just to people with links to dementia, but to anyone at all who enjoys memoirs.
