Fleishman Is in Trouble
Aug 04, 2019
I both liked and didn't like this one. the style of writing was the main complaint for me. it felt like every paragraph was structured like a list, with the sentences all starting with the same word. I also ended up skimming quite a lot because the first 1/3rd of the book was eye-rollingly focused on the dating app world, addressed in a demeaning and distasteful way (in my opinion). in the 2nd half, the book started getting more interesting, with the focus shifting to things like marriage and family and identity. overall, I couldn't stand any of the characters (couldn't relate to them at ALL), their white privilege problems (this guy complains about making almost $300k a year?! I'm supposed to feel sorry for you?!), and the mundane way the writing unfolded their individual stories (lists on lists on lists). this one was just ok for me.
