did not like it
bookshelves: fiction, scrapped

Here again is a widely popular book that failed to appeal to me in any way (sucked in by great reviews!). I had to quit about one-third of my way into the book. The main character, while likeable enough, has quite a few disappointments going on--his wife's death, his brother's death, his son's selfishness. Maybe if I'd finished the book, I wouldn't have found it so depressing. But there was nothing compelling in the plot or characterizations to keep me reading. Maybe you have to share in the main character's stage of life (elderly widower) to enjoy this read.
