(It’s been too long for me to give a proper review, but I can expand a little on that brief description above.)

A doxy is a sweetheart, prostitute, mistress, or paramour. Whatever the definition, Isabel Kerr was a kept woman; kept in style by a wealthy gentleman admirer. But she also liked Orrie Cather enough to give him a set of keys to her apartment. And when she was found with her head crushed in, the police liked Orrie too—but in a very different way.

Orrie is one of Nero Wolfe’s staff of on-call backup detectives, and Wolfe doesn’t like to have his employees sitting in jail. So it’s up to him to determine just who it was who caused the death of this doxy.
