I liked this book as it gave a glimpse into a different culture and because it was through the eyes of a child, the historic political ramifications behind the scenes was filtered in a truly different manner. The way the book was written was interesting, too. It was written like a child thinks. Start with one story - go to an aside - jump forward, jump back - truth and reality interspersed with childlike understanding and imagination. I expected more of the story to be about the Peter Pan exodus of children from Cuba after Castro came to power but it really was true to the author's childhood and his time in Havana. It made me laugh - it made me gasp - and it made me realize how fortunate I was to have the childhood I had.
