This book was a great introduction to steampunk. It's a fascinating concept that was kicked off in my brain by this book. I also really enjoyed hearing more about the author and his approach to the book, including illustrations. That bit of history made a total difference in my appreciation of the novel.

I was a bit stunned by the Darwinists. They seem quite eccentric. By the end of the novel, I was warming up to the idea. I think the characters were pretty well-established and the author was thorough in his writing. I think my favorite was Alek.

I will confess- I'm not dying to read more in the series, but I enjoyed it enough.

No sex, graphic violence, drugs, or language, as far as I remember.
