"A Study In Scarlet" is a brilliant meet cute. I like the way Holmes and Watson feel each other out. I like that Mormons are the villains. Most of all, I like that communism was just a red herring. In this way a reader can be amused by tropes even while exploring the original wellspring.

"The Sign Of Four" is really rather racist. I know that one must judge a book within its time period, but the small vicious black cannibal is just too much. Excluding Tonga, however, the case itself is interesting enough. Assuredly the boat chase is quite thrilling.

A natural recommendation for anyone who likes mysteries.
