Lie With Me
This was lovely and extremely French and both because of its actual length and the monologuing narrative style, extremely quick. It hit me emotionally in ways I wasn't expecting and the ending is poignant almost to the point of cruelty. Reading youth through the eyes of an adult looking back isn't always one of my favorite things, but Besson's narrator is astute and cognizant of his world in a way that lends his narrative reminiscing a chance to be both cerebral and beautiful. His observations are built on the fact that he already knows the end of the story and the heaviness of that builds artfully to the very end. This isn't my usual queer fare (I like happy endings, sue me.) but it was most definitely worth the read.
