really liked it
Read from February 28 to March 05, 2012

Bold, brutal, and subversive in its play with common pulp tropes. Hughes's book is as stark as any male-authored crime novel of the 1930s and 40s, and all the more audacious for putting us in the mind of a killer as she offers a salient critique of post-war masculinity. So glad it's in print in this wonderful reprint series.
