it was amazing

Fantastic book. I read the Grapes of Wrath back in high school and was not particularly impressed, but the way I felt after reading this almost makes me want to go back and give Grapes a second chance.

As grand in quality as it was in scope, the variety and depth of the characters were the cornerstones of this tale. I particularly enjoyed how several generations of the same families were chronicled - a device I don't remember reading before - but seeing the evolution of the Trasks and the Hamiltons was interesting and rewarding.

I should have more thoughts on a book that I truly loved, but it's Monday morning, so you'll have to excuse my brevity and lack of detail.

One parting thought: I think my favorite interactions in the book were between Samuel and Liza Hamilton, a husband and wife. I found their conversations endlessly entertaining.
