Getting a community of diverse beings to work together seems a bit of a tall order for anyone, but that's just what Zadi endeavours to do in this children's fantasy story. There's a whole plethora of monsters made up of different creatures -for example, Zadi is part zombie, part fairy with a little bit of robot! Actually the fairy part is her wings but, unfortunately, they don't work... There are no two monsters alike and initially they are struggling to get along because their routine of searching the hunting grounds has been less rewarding since the deliveries of new items has unexpectedly ceased. What will the community do now?

The story has strong environmental messages about reusing and recycling as well reinventing. Zadi is a strong female lead who is very handy, able to create something worthwhile from the items she's discovered. It is great that even though she is skilled, she is also willing to ask for help from others when necessary and is also willing to help them. She's also stubborn, determined and looks out for the needs of the whole community, not just herself - an excellent, inspirational role model for them all.

This is the first book in a new series for middle grade readers and is a great story to prompt discussions regarding working together, recycling, the environment and so much more. I like the huge mix of monsters, there are some fantastic characters amongst them and their attitudes, expectations, skills and talents are as diverse as the monsters themselves. It is an enjoyable read and I suspect will have readers wanting to read more about this very different community and its misfit monster residents!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
