*me* 'Project Runaway meets Mulan'? Fascinating but not convincing enough. 'sweeping'? We shall see. 'YA'? oh, why didn't you say so before. *looks at cover* I'M COMING BABY, I'M COMIN'...
My first Mulan retelling, and I consider myself SWEEPED.
It was so incredibly clever and entrancing! I could not detach myself from the book and I found myself flipping page after page as fast as I ever dared. I loved the setting, Edan, the characters, Edan, the story, Edan the romance, and lastly, EDAN.
The sewist in me was delighted with the melodic descriptions of the making of dresses. They made my mouth water much like reading about food does. There wasn't a dull moment in the entire book and it was so well written I was lost in the magic of it the moment I began. The romance in the book deserves applause for being so beautifully portrayed.
Another 100 points to the author for writing such an admirable, courageous and relatable heroine.
It was obvious this was the first act of the story. There's the conflict with the shansen that has the potential to be explored plus the cliffhanger needs to be resolved too. Even so, this book was perfect and I would appreciate it highly if it wasn't stretched out beyond its limits.
