it was ok
bookshelves: ya

Boring run of the mill YA-- delinquent girl Allie gets sent to a reform school which is out in the middle of nowhere and is totally isolated and spooky and weird! The plot and characters are pretty generic, but what bugged me the most about this book is that it was clearly written by an American and then edited with some bogus British slang to justify being set in the UK. I know Daugherty actually lives in England now, but her c characters have the rhythm and cadence of generic American suburban teens, which makes sense since she thanks a coffee shop in Houston where she wrote most of the novel.

I might give this three stars, since it's kind of spooky, but I don't like controlling male characters. And the main character blames herself for getting too drunk when one of her potential love interests tries to rape her. Gah.
