Shari Lapena's books have been hit or miss for me. A Stranger In The House had failed to impress me much but An Unwanted Guest was one of my favorite last year.

Someone We Know is again an impressive and engrossing thriller that once it starts going, there's no stopping it at all. The story happens in a small suburb where each and every person has something to hide so much that somewhere in the middle I began to wonder what kind of neighborhood is it? It seemed like none of them had anything to do other than engage in one form of deceit or the other.

The story begins with a murder filled with rage, the victim Amanda Pierce who is reported missing by her husband. The whole of neighborhood becomes involved as the police begins their inquiry. There's Olivia Sharpe trying to do what is morally right, trying to keep her teenager in check, who is so much into hacking that he's started breaking into neighbor's houses and snooping on their computers. All hell breaks loose as the police probe deepens into the life of Amanda and it soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. There's secrets, lies and deception in every way possible.

What I absolutely loved about the story is the fact that Shari Lapena manages to bring in multiple voices thru which the story progresses and there's distinct feel to each one of them. She's managed this wonderfully in her other works too. The twists in the story are ingenious and brilliantly conceived and even though everything feels jumbled, the complex story unravels in a classic way and ends leaving the reader flabbergasted.
