really liked it

Memoirs is a compelling debut, allowing us to explore the worldview of a cult leader. Becker expertly explores the motivations of both Mimi and her followers, allowing the reader to see the societal issues they take issue with. The novel also highlights Becker's familiarity with various forms of Judaism, from the Orthodox yeshiva world, to college life, to Israel. The story is also well framed by Mimi's present narrative between flashbacks. Memoirs is a delightful quick read (I finished it in 2 days).
