A win doesn't feel as good as a loss feels bad, and the good feeling doesn't last long as the bad. Not even close.
As a kid, I rarely watched tennis. When I did, it would happen by accident. I would be doing my homework, the TV would be on with Eurosport, and a tennis match would come on. I wouldn't follow it closely. My interest in tennis was surface-deep. Even so, as children, my brother and I would always pick favourites. With tennis, my brother picked Sampras; I picked Agassi.
That was the extent of my relationship with Andre Agassi. And to be honest, that relationship was not why I decided to read this book. I wanted to read a good autobiography, plain and simple.
After finishing this excellent book, I appreciate Agassi as a human first, and as a tennis player second - a sign of an honest and thorough autobiography.
Tennis-wise, after reading about specific matches, it was fun to find and watch moments of them on youtube. Knowing what went on in Andre's head, gave me a deeper appreciation for what was going on in the court.
Recommended for anyone interested in a good autobiography. And probably, a must-read for tennis fans.
