it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, series-in-progress

In the first book of this trilogy, Fonda Lee focused on the battle between the two ruling clans of Kekon and the city of Janloon. In this amazing and lengthy sequel, the battle broadens to encompass the larger surrounding countries of Espenia and Ygutan and a nearby island, where jade smugglers thrive. Once again, the primary focus is on the No Peak clan leadership (the Kaul family): Hilo, Shae, Anden, Wen, Kehn and Tar, even the son of Hilo's brother and their battle with the Mountain clan, their dedication to destroying each other in all ways (physically, politically, economically) and aligning themselves with powerful allies. The Green Bones of Kekon are super soldiers, with great strength, speed and ability to manipulate the physical world in seemingly magical ways. At the heart of the book are classic themes, such as love, family, honor, corruption, revenge, etc. and great characters, good, bad, and in-betweens. Great fights, especially the one between the Weather Man (business manager) of one clan and Pillar (boss) of the other. Highly recommended series.
