Prior to reading, I didn't know about the MS St Louis, which was turned away from Cuba in 1939. It's shocking, but when you look at how people fleeing persecution are still treated today, not especially surprising. The ending was kind of cringe and I think the parts about the Cuban revolution could have been spelled out more clearly, but overall, it's a story that will stay with me for a long time.
