I was wary of reading another book of "Secret Society Protects Humans From Evil Supernaturals". I mean, that's been done to death. But I was pleasantly surprised to find this book actually interesting and was fully engaged.

The author uses an interesting device to give us backstory, although at times, it was a bit jarring. The heroine has lost her memory. But before she lost it, she knew it would happen and made extensive preparations for the being that would remain to stay alive. She wrote notes and compiled an extensive book with all the information her future self would need to pick up her life again. Yeah, not really realistic, but it worked. Snippets from this notebook are scattered throughout the book giving needed backstory.

The world the author created was interesting, the "gifted" characters were fascinating, and the plot moved at a nice clip.
