I remember being pretty fond of this when I was a kid. The relationship between the siblings Jerry and Rachel is pretty excellent, and the logics they use are note-perfect. Probably best for kids reading on their own — my adult brain does not understand this book at all — and who won't be confused by how little interaction Rachel and Jerry have with adults. (Seriously, they go swimming without lifeguards, have long afternoons with no supervision at all, etc., etc. If that is not something that makes intuitive sense to you, this will be a frustrating book.) It's an interesting anthropological snapshot of suburban CT in the — forties? fifties? I'm honestly not sure.
