The Sparsholt Affair

I'm beginning to wonder whether my ability to read 'literary fiction' is becoming impaired by the advancing years. I yearn for action and this is a book of moods and intents. It's rather like a play where, as soon as something is going to happen, the actors leave the stage and return later to report on what has been done. This is no more evident than in the treatment of the 'Affair' that has shadowed the lives of the central characters. I 'liked' the book (hence 3 stars) but it lost me in the middle section where the characters were lost in a fog of wh0-is-related-to-whom. The last few chapters pulled me back in for a satisfying conclusion.
