J.J. is an Irish boy living in Kinvara, a little town that seems to be losing time. When his mother asks for more time for her birthday, he decides to go find some. He ends up in a place where time stands still, or at least it did before someone put a hole between the worlds and now time is leaking from J.J.'s world into the land of Tir Na Nog. The rest of the novel follows J.J.'s quest through the land of the Fair Folk to save time.
I loved how Thompson weaved in the importance of music to the Irish culture. She made it very clear that music plays an integral role in the lives of the Irish. However, the story seemed to drag on longer than it needed to and the climax was....anti-climactic. J.J. was able to resolve the time issue waaaaay too easily and quickly. It was a beautiful picture of Irish culture and lore, but overall it was too slow for my taste.
