I read this as background reading for my Ginsberg/Kerouac/Beat Generation essay, and I quite liked it. Having read some of Hunter S. Thompson's writing (The Rum Diary and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream) Kerouac's writing style reminded me of Thompson quite a lot. That's not a bad thing, and overall, I quite enjoyed Tristessa. On to On the Road now!
