I love the concept. A book about finding a new best friend! Who hasn't gone through this exact same plight at some point in their adulthood? Ms Bertsche is engaging and entertaining, and having been in the exact same situation, I understood her need for companionship completely. And I love TV and yoga and frivolous shopping too! I wanted to be her BFF! However, all the obsessing about friends and the countless dates were too much after a while. I eventually lost track, which ultimately led me to lose interest. I still rooted for her, but found myself wishing she'd just relax, pick someone, and be done with it. Also, there were countless pop culture references, which is part of who she is and made the book incredibly relatable in 2012. However, will this book date itself quickly? Will all the references to TV, celebs, and social media resonate as well in 10 to 15 years? Sort of like the future of her new friendships, only time will tell.
