really liked it
bookshelves: 2012, dragons, fairytale-ish, juv-sci-fi-fantasy, mythology
Read from May 10 to 14, 2012

This book is a cool blend of several fairy tales and mythology.
Reveka is an herbalist's apprentice in the kingdom of Sylvania. There are 12 princesses who are cursed to dance every night, and anyone who looks upon them at night mysteriously falls asleep and can't be woken. There is a reward for anyone who can break the curse and Reveka really wants that reward.

I always thought that I liked retold fairy tales, but then I would read them and they were only ok. It turns out that I like fairy tales told from a side perspective. I really liked The Wide Awake Princess by E.D. Baker which is Sleeping Beauty told from the perspective of the little sister. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out!
