I found this novel extremely interesting. I had never heard of the event it portrayed - a disaster at Bethnal Green station during the Second World War - and was particularly intrigued as this is the area of London where my grandparents came from. The novel is sympathetically written and competently mixes fact and fiction in an unforced manner. By coincidence during my three days of reading the book, there was a short extract on a TV history programme about the event, which gave further insight into the experiences of those involved.
