Babette's Feast

As it was written in some other review, the understanding of this story and the whole enjoyment that it brings depends on knowing some Christian truths. It's unassumingness goes well with the theme o mercy while few questions are raised: do we recognize mercy for what it is? Are we capable to grasp the greatness of it? How do we treat those who are generous to us?
It also made me think (again) about communication and the lack of it; how wrong can we be in our assumptions, how far from the truth when we don't reveal our thoughts and how much emptiness can that leave even in a successful life (such as Lorens Loewenthielm had).
This is short novel that said a lot and I admire it for that.
